Wow. Can't believe this trimester is over! I have learned so much in this class as you can see throughout my posts. In the beginning, I had a basic understanding of how to take a picture and I knew a thing or two on photoshop. Now, I am confident in both my abilities to take good pictures and edit photos in photoshop. I am very glad I have taken this class as it was fun and very instructional. Thank you to Mr. Bush, my teacher, for teaching me a lot this tri. When I first walked in on the first day of school I knew a few tricks to taking good photos but I didn't know nearly as much as I do now. If you look at my first "practice photos" you'd see some bad quality pictures of random things. I'd put the camera in auto mode and hoped it'd do all the magic for me. Now, I take some high quality photos and I am really good at choosing settings for different situations. I have even become more open minded and creative when taking pictures. As you can see above, I have came a long way in the photography world. I started off by taking pictures of boring, plain things that weren't framed right in the picture and didn't have the best quality. Now I am taking pictures of much more interesting things, with the right settings and creating really good photos. I am extremely proud of myself and all I have learned and accomplished in this class.

For this assignment, we panned along with our teacher riding a bike and tried to get the background blurry but the subject clear. I learned that sunny isn't the perfect condition for all types of photography. It was hard to get the right exposure and also get the motion blur.
For this assignment, we found a spot to move around, put our cameras on a tripod and took a picture of every pose in the frame our model did. And then, we put them into photoshop and compiled them to make it look like one picture. This was cool because it looks like there is multiple people that look the same. I learned that it is very important to use your tripod in an assignment like this. It was very fun and I would definitely do it again.
This week I took old photos from past assignments I didn't use and turned them black and white. I really think nature goes really well in black and white. It adds such a dramatic feel to pictures and I really like it. I even included Rex since he modeled for me this weekend but I didn't like the outcome of the pictures so I decided not to use them. Turning pictures black and white isn't as easy as just desaturating it. Usually, you have to do quite a few other changes for it to look the way you want. Some pictures look better in black and white than others. Some even look like black and white paintings even more so than black and white pictures. For some reason I just like the feel of black and white photos more than color photos. It kind of gives me a calm vibe.
This week we were given the task to find a tutorial we could do on photoshop and actually follow the steps to do it. I did 2 different tutorials. They were both pretty easy. My first one was to make the subject look like it was jumping out of the picture. My second tutorial was how to make a picture look like a watercolor painting.
This week's shoot was of people. Luckily, my two siblings were willing to step up and model for me. I really like my best photo because it isn't just a straight-on picture of someone. It adds personality and story to the picture. And I think my other photos do the sam also. Sometimes they got a little far away and the pictures started getting blurrier and darker. I was lucky that my dad is a photographer and had a backdrop and lights to help with this shoot. I think a lot of pictures turned out really well and are pretty funny. Also I am glad I have 2 siblings because my sister does NOT know how to show some expression. This week's shooting was pretty fun and I think the pictures turned out great. The pictures really accentuate my brothers green brown eyes and my sister's features as well.
This assignment was actually very fun. We took 3 pictures as we swiveled our cameras on a tripod and overlapped between each picture. And then we put them in photoshop and photo-merged them together. I learned that it is crucial to have every setting the same for every picture you take (for the same panoramic.)
I am proud of the products that came out of this shooting assignment. At first, it wasn't looking so bright. The lighting was tricky to figure out, what settings to use took me a while to find out. My first photos look pretty bad. After a while, the pictures starting turning out a lot better. My best photo is also my favorite picture I have taken all year. To get this affect I took a computer and found a background on the internet and put it full screen and then I placed a black notebook holder on top of the keyboard. And my subject was like a glass ball decoration that I found in my basement. I am really happy how all of these pictures came out. I found this technique on Pinterest. My pictures that didn't include this technique were a little iffy but I do like the pictures of the gargoyles. Still life photography isn't too tricky once you get it going. I am lucky to have had a backdrop and good lighting. I can definitely see me doing more still life photography in the future.
This week's photoshop assignment mixed in taking pictures and photoshop. We took pictures with 2 different types of lighting. One was using window light and a bounce card to illuminate the subject and the other lighting was studio lighting, a more professional setup. We were then to take our best pictures of the two lightings and put them together with frames around them in photoshop. I learned a lot about how to take better quality portraits of people and also the different settings that should be used while taking portraits.
For this assignment, we went around the school, taking pictures of places we thought we could digitally add unrealistic things and make them look realistic. For mine I decided to do a beachy scene with a sunset, sand, palm tree, conch shell and a towel. My challenge was taking out the windows because in my picture there was a bunch of glare. I like how the shadows help make the picture even more realistic. I really enjoyed doing this assignment and can see me doing similar things in the future for fun.
